The Weight-Bearing AP (Dorsoplantar) View of the Foot is a specialized radiographic projection taken while the patient is standing with full body weight evenly distributed on both feet. The X-ray beam is directed dorsoplantar, typically with a 10–15° cephalic angle, centered at the base of the third metatarsal.
This view is essential for evaluating the alignment of bones and joints under natural load, making it particularly valuable in assessing flatfoot (pes planus), hallux valgus (bunion), joint space narrowing, and midfoot or forefoot deformities. Compared to non-weight-bearing views, it provides a more accurate picture of how the foot functions during standing and walking, which is crucial for diagnosis and surgical planning.
