Waters View (Occipitomental View) is an X-ray projection commonly used to evaluate the maxillary sinuses, orbits, nasal cavity, and zygomatic bones. In this view, the patient places their chin on the image receptor with the head tilted back so that the orbitomeatal line forms a 37° angle with the X-ray beam. The X-ray is directed from the occiput (back of the head) to the mentum (chin), hence the name “occipitomental.” This positioning elevates the maxillary sinuses above the petrous ridges of the temporal bone, providing a clear and unobstructed view. Waters View is particularly useful for detecting sinusitis, facial fractures (like blowout fractures of the orbit), and fluid levels in the maxillary sinuses. It is widely used in ENT and facial trauma imaging.
