Waters View (also known as the Occipitomental View) is a crucial X-ray projection used to evaluate the paranasal sinuses, especially the maxillary sinuses, as well as the nasal cavity, orbital floor, and zygomatic arches. In this projection, the patient is positioned with their chin elevated and resting against the X-ray cassette, so the orbitomeatal line forms an angle of about 37 degrees to the image receptor. The X-ray beam passes from the back of the head (occiput) toward the chin (mentum), providing a clear image of the maxillary sinuses without superimposition of the petrous ridges. The Waters View is particularly helpful for diagnosing maxillary sinusitis, nasal bone fractures, orbital floor blowout fractures, and other midfacial abnormalities. It gives a detailed frontal view of the anterior facial skeleton and is commonly used in both trauma cases and routine sinus evaluations, offering critical information for ENT and radiology specialists.
