The Oblique View of the Ankle is a supplementary radiographic projection used to provide a more detailed image of the ankle joint structures, particularly the distal tibiofibular joint, lateral malleolus, and anterior tibial margin, which may not be clearly seen in standard AP or lateral views.

In this view, the patient lies supine or seated with the leg extended and the entire leg and foot rotated medially by about 45 degrees. The foot is kept dorsiflexed to maintain a neutral position. The X-ray beam is directed anteroposteriorly, centered midway between the malleoli.

This view is particularly helpful for evaluating fractures of the distal fibula, tibiofibular syndesmosis, and ankle joint alignment, especially in trauma cases. It offers improved visualization of overlapping structures and enhances the diagnostic accuracy when assessing complex ankle injuries.
