The Cross-Table Lateral View of the tibia and fibula is a specialized radiographic projection primarily used in trauma situations where the patient is unable to turn or reposition the affected leg. This view allows imaging of the side profile of the lower leg without moving it, making it ideal for patients with severe pain, possible fractures, or post-surgical conditions.

In this technique, the patient lies supine on the X-ray table with the affected leg extended. A horizontal X-ray beam is directed across the leg, typically from the medial to the lateral side, while the image receptor is placed vertically on the lateral side of the tibia and fibula.

This view provides clear visualization of the lateral aspects of the tibia and fibula, helps in detecting fracture displacement, and assesses bone alignment without requiring leg movement. It complements the AP view and is especially valuable when a standard lateral position is not possible.
