The AP View of the Foot, also known as the Dorsoplantar (DP) View, is a standard radiographic projection used to evaluate the overall anatomy of the foot, including the phalanges, metatarsals, tarsal bones, and midfoot joints. In this view, the patient is positioned either standing or supine, with the foot flat on the image receptor and the X-ray beam angled 10–15° cephalad (toward the heel), directed at the base of the third metatarsal.
This view provides a clear image of the forefoot and midfoot alignment, joint spaces, and bony structures, making it essential for diagnosing fractures, dislocations, arthritic changes, and congenital deformities. The dorsoplantar view is commonly used in both trauma and orthopedic evaluations of the foot.
