The Acute Flexion View of the elbow is a specialized X-ray projection used primarily when a patient is unable to extend the elbow due to trauma or pain. In this view, the elbow is fully flexed, with the forearm tightly folded against the upper arm, and the X-ray beam is directed perpendicular to the humerus or sometimes angled to capture both distal humerus and proximal forearm. This view is particularly useful for assessing distal humeral fractures, especially supracondylar fractures, when standard AP and lateral views cannot be obtained. It allows visualization of the distal humerus, olecranon, and parts of the proximal radius and ulna, helping in accurate diagnosis despite limited arm mobility.
